Biography
Luis was born in Michoacán, Mexico, and immigrated to the United States with my family at the age of seven. He started attending the College of Alameda in 2016. He worked part-time while taking classes to help cover tuition and help support my family with whatever He could. In 2021, He transferred to UC Berkeley and graduated in 2023 with a degree in Molecular and Cell Biology, with a focus on Cell and Developmental Biology (as of 2024 it is now called Cell Biology, Development, and Physiology). While at Berkeley, He participated in the Community College Bridge to Berkeley Biology Program, where He worked on analyzing the genetic variability of the human brain using data from the Allen Human Brain Atlas. He also did research in the Sthal lab, where He studied insulin sensitivity using mesenchymal stem cells. Outside of research, He served as an orientation leader and mentor for transfer students and was the outreach coordinator for TransferMD. I’m currently taking a few gap years before Medical school, and focusing on cancer immunology research. Trying to understand how the immune system interacts with cancer cells in an effort to find new ways to boost the immune system’s ability to fight cancer. In my free time, He enjoy photography, playing guitar, and watching and playing fútbol. My favorite team is Chivas from Liga MX because they’re the only team that plays with an all-Mexican roster. He also have a growing sneaker collection, currently at about 40 pairs.
